About the Performance:
“Everyday Symphony” explores how young individuals navigate daily societal challenges. The production tests the musical abilities of circus artists and the physical capabilities of musicians. In this contemporary circus production, performers convey messages through rhythm and physical prowess, while orchestra members step out of their traditional comfort zones by playing complex pieces in unconventional forms or improvising. The ethereal harmony between orchestral music and circus performance creates a mystical world, fostering unique art forms and special combinations.
The narrative traverses various social situations that resonate with people of all ages, highlighting the importance of mutual consideration, support, and trust. It delves into the social need to belong to a group while maintaining individuality, addressing the pressures of choice and the necessity to make decisions. These themes are mirrored by the performers, as each instrument in the orchestra sounds beautiful alone but creates a magnificent symphony when players harmonize and attune to each other. Similarly, circus artists can perform tricks together only by entrusting their lives to one another. The performance seeks to find a balance between individuality and collaboration, questioning whether one can be elevated above the other and exploring the boundaries of human relationships and trust through contemporary circus. It aims to discover the interplay between circus and wind orchestra music, both separately and intertwined.
Producer Liis Maria Kaabel:
“For me, both circus and wind orchestras are utopian phenomena – both can manipulate their bodies and surrounding props. The mere thought of a hall filled with a nearly 50-member live orchestra and mystically moving bodies gives me chills!”
OMAtsirkus is a youth collective that approaches circus differently than traditionally perceived. Their goal is to demonstrate that circus can be contemporary art, applying classical circus genres and techniques in innovative ways.
The Estonian Youth Wind Orchestra (ENPO) has been active since 1994 and is currently led by conductor Silver Niinemets. The orchestra comprises 70 of the best young musicians from across Estonia.
