
Peeter Saan
LtC PEETER SAAN PhD (1959) began his music studies first on accordion, later on clarinet and saxophone. He is graduated from Georg Ots Tallinn Music High School in the clarinet and saxophone class of A. Ryabov (1983) and Estonian Music Academy in the clarinet class of R. Karin (1988). His career as a musician has lasted 16 years, first in Professional Wind Band „Tallinn“ and thereafter in the Orchestra of Estonian Defence Forces.
In 1996, he was nominated the chief of the Orchestra of Estonian Defence Forces and the Chief Conductor of the Defence Forces. He continued his studies on conducting in master study (2000-2002), later doctoral study (2002-2006) at Estonian Music Academy. In his scientific research, he has reverberated the historical development processes of Estonian Ceremony Music as well as history of Estonian military music.
Peeter Saan has performed as guest conductor in Germany, Finland, Sweden and Russia. Every year, his orchestra makes tens of concerts of both symphonic and more popular music. His particular subject of interest is older original works of Estonian composers. Many works of the former periods he has rearranged to fit the requirements of the contemporary orchestra. As an arranger, he has produced more than one hundred fifty arrangements and transcriptions for symphonic band. 17 CD-s delivered by Orchestra of Estonian Defence Forces conducted by Peeter Saan contain variety from classical and ceremonial to popular music.
